Things to Do in Memphis: Shelby Farms Park
On this episode of Memphis Revealed, I am showing you around the beautiful Shelby Farms Park.
Shelby Farms is one of the largest urban parks in the country with over 4,500 acres of land, 40 miles of trails, and more than 20 bodies of water! My personal favorite is Hyde Lake.
This park is full of activities for the whole family. With all of the water around, give paddle boating, canoeing, or kayaking a try. There are also playgrounds and tons of trails to hike, bike, or run.
When I said this park was fun for the whole family, I wasn’t joking! Shelby Farms has a fantastic off-leash dog park. There is a ton of space for them to run around and jump in the water. Bring your pups out to play. They will enjoy this Memphis gem too!
Shelby Farms even has real life buffalo! You can get pretty close to these big guys. I don’t know anywhere else in the Memphis area where you can get within twenty feet from a real-life buffalo.
If you need more animal adventures after seeing the buffalo, check out the horse stables. You can visit the friendly animals or go for a horseback ride around the massive park.
Shelby Farms hosts events throughout the year. One of my favorite events is Kayaks and Cocktails. You can enjoy a sunset guided tour and then sip on cocktails after at the AutoZone Front Porch.
Today, I barely scratched the surface of all the cool things taking place at Shelby Farms. Around Halloween they have zombie paint-balling and for the Holidays they do Starry Nights which illuminates the park in lights.
